There is a beloved neighbourhood institution in my neck of Toronto that will be breaking a few hearts at the end of September. The famous Plant World will be closing its doors for good to make way for a condo project. This premier garden centre on Eglinton Ave., just east of Royal York Rd., has been around for decades – it’s history actually dates back more than 130 years when it originally grew produce for the local farmers’ markets – before turning into the floral community that it is today. Situated on five acres and run by the Reeves family then as well as today, Plant World became synonymous with luxe florals, plants (from the everyday to the exotic), flower arrangements, gifts, collectables and much more, with a loyal staff that has been with the family for years.
